Linda E. Wiens

Linda was born in Germany, emigrated to Canada in 1956 and came to live full time in the U.S. in 2002. She graduated in psychology from the University of Toronto. After working two years in India as a volunteer, she completed teacher training for high school and elementary school.
She began her career in adult education for indigenous Canadians and others, organizing and directing innovative adult skill training courses. Later she became an organization effectiveness specialist working with mining, forest products, steel manufacturing, small business, social services and health care organizations.
For her last 10 years before retiring from Quetico Centre in Northwestern Ontario, Canada, she served as its vice president-COO and then president and CEO.
Now living in Grayslake, IL, Linda founded the Prairie Crossing Institute in 2001 and served as its executive director until 2009 when the Institute became part of the Liberty Prairie Foundation. Since her second retirement she volunteers for the organization, now renamed Liberty Prairie and a 501c-3 entity.
Liberty Prairie promotes conservation development, sustainable and regenerative agriculture, food quality and security, and sound policy relating to environmental protection.
Among other volunteer projects, Linda became involved Board memberwith
the Cool Learning Experience in Waukegan in 2015 and is now the Chair-President. She believes strongly in the values underlying the curriculum of this program which serves children with interesting out-of school, nature-centered learning activities.
